#HighlySensitivePeople: Do You Have A Sense Of Urgency?

Do you have a sense of urgency? I do! I probably have triple the amount of a sense of urgency than most people. This doesn’t make me a better person, but I get frustrated when I and others don’t give their best effort.

My definition of a sense of urgency is a burning desire to accomplish something in a time-efficient and organized way. This doesn’t mean in a perfect way, but in an honest effort kind of way. In my personal and business pursuits, I find that many people don’t share my feelings. They don’t place as high a value on accomplishment and efficiency.

Have you ever called a doctor, lawyer, accountant, service person or any other type of business and felt that you weren’t being heard or treated with any importance? Maybe you voiced a complaint, and they acted as if you were crazy for wanting them to do what they were supposed to do! The truth is that many people are not truly committed to the service they provide. We DO need to complain or change providers if we don’t get the service that we deserve!

These people expect you to accept mediocre service as a way of life. This is wrong! If more people stand up and insist on quality, those who fall short won’t stay in business very long. In this way, we can increase accountability, get better results, and reduce the frequency of mediocre service.

Something to think about…Do you have positive expectations in your personal relationships? Do you have positive expectations for your children? We get what we expect. The more we expect of others, the more they will be motivated to improve themselves.

I find that having a sense of urgency is a key ingredient in maximizing my accomplishments. This strong desire is the fuel to get my motivational engine revved up, so that I can take the steps needed to do what I want to do.

Do you have a sense of urgency? Do you have a strong purpose? When you look back at your successes in life, you’ll probably discover that you had a strong sense of urgency to accomplish something large or small that was truly important to you. Without it, you can stagnate and fail to get the best out of yourself.

Being the highly sensitive person that I am, I need a sense of purpose and accomplishment to be happy. What about you? Does having a sense of urgency help you? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
