#HighlySensitivePeople: Can You Learn From Negative Past Experiences?

My childhood feelings about a difficult grammar school teacher who embarrassed me in front of the class had a profound negative influence on me. I was never a good student and was always afraid to go to school. This is an example of “personal baggage” that we all have to carry around. I got rid of this personal baggage as I became a young adult. My thirst for knowledge intensified when I consumed as much self-help information on topics that I was interested in.

There comes a point in everyone’s life when we have to let go of this burden or keep carrying it around. What good does it do to keep alive a bad experience or harbor resentment against someone who has wronged us?

Perhaps it’s too uncomfortable to let go of an “old friend” that’s been an important part of our lives. Maybe we are “addicted” to the pain and suffering that an experience or person has caused us. If we are truly committed to improving our lives, awareness of why we act as we do and forgiveness of things from our negative past will help us move forward. It’s extremely important that we rid ourseves of the people and past negative experiences that hold us back.

It is too easy to revert back to our negative programming that we have carried around for years. Seek help if you need it. Make a conscious decision to utilize your best qualities and move in a positive direction. It will do wonders for your self-esteem. You’ll be able to take risks that will move you closer to what you want.
