#HighlySensitivePeople: Are You Feeling Stuck?

As a highly sensitive person, I sometimes feel frustrated that I’m not making progress in my life. Personal growth is a natural progression of life. How come so many of us resist something that makes us smarter to make a better life for ourselves?

Could it be that any kind of change, good or bad, upsets our normal routine that causes stress? Maybe we are addicted to feeling sorry for ourselves and feel better in this state of being? Perhaps feelings of hopelessness may feel less threatening than to take the actions and responsibility to make our lives better?

Feeling stuck in our lives may stem from not outgrowing our negative programming from events and hurtful actions from others that we haven’t gotten over. Maybe we blame our genetics as the source of our problems. “My high sensitivity has caused me to be this way.” “My mother or father was this way, so I must be this way too.” Doe’s any of this self-talk sound familiar?

You might have tried this Doctor or Therapist for many years without the desired results. If this is the case, perhaps you didn’t get the right help and maybe you should have made a change sooner.

At some point, we all need to come to the realization that regardless of what has happened in the past, we are responsible for what happens to us in the future.

If you’re not happy with your present way of living, you can make a change. All it takes is to decide that you’ll do everything you can to improve your lot. It’s not the lack of availability of resources, but our lack of ability to seek help when we need it. I’m not saying this is easy, but the hardest steps to take is to make a decision and then taking action.

Am I being too simplistic about this? How would you like to improve yourself and your life? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.

    Hi Elizabeth,

It’s never too late to get “unstuck”.

Take the time to figure out what you want.

Don’t be afraid to try new things.

Have patience, it takes time to figure yourself out.

I’ve been very stuck and quite depressed and I realized I needed help to change so I sought help which took a lot of inner strength and self talk. The health professionals were understaffed so they were unable to help, that was horrible after putting myself out there and to be denied help, then I went somewhere else and the same thing happened, then again. It’s been 2 months and my health is getting worse by all the stress and rejection, I’m not sure where else to go or what to do it feels like the universe doesn’t want me to be better. So yes I think you are a little simplistic, nothing is ever easy.

      Hi Genevieve,

I’m sorry about your health problems. I can definitely relate to your situation in dealing with the health system. I went through this myself. It’s definitely not easy and it does wear you down.

Don’t give up in trying to find the help that you need. I have gone through many doctors to finally find the right one for me. My need to feel better was the motivation that I needed to keep trying.

Again, I truly understand what you’re going through. Perhaps, you might try to get information from your local library. I’ve found that librarians have been extremely helpful in finding the information that I’ve needed.

I wish you the best. Let me know how you’re doing.

I am an Empath, HSP, and codependent. I find it very difficult to make choices for myself that I know are healthy (nature time, exercise, healthy foods) I find it difficult to rise above the low frequency I’ve been used to functioning at. I keep looking for outside sources to help get me through each day. I feel stuck. Although, I don’t necessarily feel lost- I’ve done a lot of research on what helps HSPs & Empaths, I have the knowledge, I just don’t do those things that often. Maybe a part of me feels like I deserve to feel tortured. Like if I were to be free with my sensitivities, I’d have too much strength and power and I’d ruin my world vs improve it. Anyone else feel or have felt that way and how did you overcome? Thank you.

      Hi Kari,

You mentioned that you have knowledge and know what you need to do, but you feel blocked to take action. Your mindset is holding you back when you said that you feel that you deserve to feel tortured. What not question yourself to see if this is true? I’m sure that it isn’t!

I’ve found the best way that I get “unstuck” is to think about what’s truly important to me and give myself all the positive reasons why this goal will make my life better. I write this down and add to the list. When I do this, it gives me the momentum to take small steps towards that end.

The more small “victories” that I get, the easier it becomes for me to do the things that will make my life better.

Let me know how this works for you.
