To go to a Meetup or not go to a Meetup?

Meetup groups serve a very useful purpose to bring together like-minded people who share a common interest. The meetings are normally in person and provide a safe way for people to socialize.

There’s a Meetup group for any kind of interest imaginable. Go to http://www.meetup.com, type in your interest and zip code or country, and you’ll find a group in your immediate area. It’s easy and you don’t have to make a commitment to go to other meetings if it’s not right for you.

Are Meetups advantageous to highly sensitive people? Absolutely! I know from personal experience how good they can be for HSPs. I was the organizer of a HSP Meetup Group for 2 1/2 years.

A HSP Meetup serves a very important purpose to bring together highly sensitive people to learn from each other and socialize in a safe, supportive, and non-threatening atmosphere. As the group leader, I made sure that everyone was comfortable. This included having meetings in HSP friendly environments. We had meetings in outdoor parks, quiet restaurants where we had privacy, Museums, and people had volunteered their homes.

I was surprised that HSPs from across the country and around the world wanted to join my group and attend meetings. I was able to accomplish this by having teleconferences. The attendance ranged from having two to forty people.

People in my group were reluctant to come to meetings, but when they did come, they were very glad that they did. They felt better about themselves and many friendships were formed.

It does take effort to go above our comfort zones to try something new. I would strongly suggest that you join a HSP meetup or any other topic that you’re interested in and go to a meeting. If there are no Meetup groups in your area, you might consider starting your own. If it works out fine, if not, nothing is lost. Continue to go to other groups.

Have you gone to a HSP Meetup or any other type of Meetup group? If so, what was your experience like? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
