What is conventional wisdom? When I posed this question on my social media, I got a profound response from one of my followers.
People are following tradition, or what they have been taught, instead of listening to their instinct and heart. It’s not wisdom at all, wisdom is learned and earned over time by personal experience. Each person’s wisdom is different and the way they handle a problem or situation when they dig deep from within, is uniquely theirs.
I loved this response because it got right to the heart of my question. To summarize, people follow “traditional wisdom” because it’s easier to follow a more familiar path, but true wisdom is learned from personal intuition and experience.
Is the more familiar path the right path for you? That depends on the situation. An argument can be made that the conventional path has worked for most people. Has it worked for you in this specific circumstance or similar situation? If so, this might be the way for you to go. If not, you can look within and perhaps explore some uncharted waters. You can set aside conventional wisdom, and do your own research. Perhaps you’ll take some risks, or try something that others may not think of, and then make adjustments as needed.
The ability to listen to and trust our hearts & intuition are the keys to deep, personal wisdom. Highly sensitive people are “hard-wired” to do this work, so use your natural abilities. Are you up for the challenge?
Is conventional wisdom really true wisdom? What do you think? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
