Some natural home remedies for HSPs

Through my work with highly sensitive people, I’ve discovered that many of us share an interest in natural medicine. Thus, I thought I’d pass along some natural home remedies that might be useful to HSPs. Below is list that I had clipped from an article by Jessica Girdwain in Woman’s Day magazine (April 2014).

  • Good for relieving anxiety: If you’re feeling stressed, put pressure on the point located between your thumb and index finger. Use the opposite thumb and forefinger to squeeze and release the muscle for thirty seconds.
  • Good for insomnia: Nutmeg is a spice that’s actually a mild sedative. Sprinkle 1/4 cup teaspoon into warm milk and sip before you go to sleep.
  • Good for a mood booster: Try a “contrast shower.” Switching from hot to cold water is stimulating, and experts say it can help relieve gloominess by increasing circulation. Shower in warm water for three minutes, then quickly switch to chilly for thirty seconds. Repeat that cycle three times, ending on cold.
  • Good for a brain jolt: When your feeling mentally tired, go for a brisk five-minute walk. Moving your muscles immediately increases the activity in your brain so you feel more awake and alert.
  • Good for headaches: Tension headaches are often caused by sitting hunched over a computer screen. The position tightens muscles in the front of your neck and chest. Do this simple move to undo the damage. Stand up and put your hands on your hips. Roll head back so you’re staring at the ceiling as you arch your back slightly. Hold for fifteen seconds, return to start, then repeat.
  • Good for pain relief: Whip up a drink that’s packed with potent ingredients to ease inflammation and boost blood flow to speed healing. Combine 1/2 ounce bottled lemon juice with 1/2 ounce of ginger juice(sold in health stores or online) with one ounce of pineapple juice and a pinch each of cayenne pepper and turmeric. Drink whenever you have sore muscles.
  • Good for fatigue: When you’re feeling tired, you can increase oxygen flow and feel energized with this trick. Lie on the floor and place one blanket, folded like a pillow, under your head and another rolled under your upper back. Hold the position for two minutes as you take deep breaths.

Do you have any other natural home remedies? I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
