For many people, the holidays bring a lot of stress, and this is especially true for highly sensitive people. All of the extra work that is involved in preparing for the holidays can easily lead to feelings of overwhelm. Depression or loneliness can also bring on stress. You may have recently lost a loved one, or perhaps you don't have a good relationship with your family or don't keep in touch with them as often as you wish. Even bad weather can cause stress, as it may put off family gatherings or make travel difficult. The best way to deal with stress is to learn how to minimize the things that are causing the stress. How do you really feel about the holidays? I must admit that the period between Thanksgiving and New Years Day is not my favorite time of the year. The days are shorter, the weather is colder, and the landscape takes on a dreary, bare look. My mood is always worse in the winter months. And when I’m in a bad mood, everything looks bleak. I find it hard to watch television or read a newspaper without being affected by all the negativity in our fast-moving news cycle.
Like many people, I tend to experience a feeling of sadness during the holidays. Another year is coming to an end, I’m getting older, and I have a few more aches and pains. (more…)
Do you have any demanding people in your life? I know that this is a ridiculous question for me to ask. Everyone does! They come disguised in many forms. It could be a relative, family member, friend, boss, co-worker, customers, or someone who we casually come in contact with such as in a grocery store. Have I left anyone out? Have you ever wished that you didn’t have to deal with people all the time? I know that I have. Due to my highly sensitive, conscientious nature, I find myself bothered when things seem inefficient and wasteful. I wish I didn’t care so much about these things, but I can’t help but notice! Waste, whether time, money, or emotional energy, plagues us on both a macro (societal) and micro (personal) level.
We read about government excess and wonder why we are heavily taxed. If you think about our political system, politicians spend far more time and money campaigning than they do serving their constituents. I often get sticker shock when I hear of all the money raised in a particular competitive political race. (more…)
