Highly Sensitive People: Are You Thankful For Your High Sensitivity?

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and appreciate all that we have. While it’s nice to have a holiday to remind us to be grateful, there’s no reason to focus our gratitude on just one day. Do you routinely take the time to be grateful for all of the good things in your life? What about your high sensitivity?

As highly sensitive people, we’re greatly influenced by our environment and deeply take in everything around us. This means that we have rich, intense lives, as well as the ability to fully experience life’s best moments! On the flip side, our nature can also make us uniquely challenged by daily stress. Since most people experience stress nearly every day and only occasional joy, it can be hard to appreciate high sensitivity. (more…)

My One Year Anniversary & Your Free Gift!

Wow…I can’t believe it’s been a full year since I decided to re-launch the Highly Sensitive Person Publishing Company! As some of you may recall, I took a four-year hiatus after my mother passed away in 2014. Shortly after settling her estate, I began the daunting process of moving half-way across the country to be closer to my daughter, which is why I ended up taking such an extended leave. Coping with the loss of my mother, managing her affairs, selling my business of 35 years, leaving my home of 33 years, and moving 950 miles away was a lot to deal with in a short period of time! Highly Sensitive People: Do You Think Mr. Rogers Was Highly Sensitive?

I’m very excited about the upcoming movie, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which is about Mr.Rogers! He was a wonderful role model for generations of children and families. His kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness were nothing short of legendary!

Not long ago, I was going through some papers and came across a letter that was dated April 1995 from Mr. Rogers to my daughter, Stephanie. The letter is as follows:

Dear Stephanie,

It meant a great deal to me that you wanted to write to me as a part of your class project. I’m glad to know that our Neighborhood was a part of your growing up and that you continue to have such warm feelings about our program. (more…)

Highly Sensitive People: How Do You React To Change?

As a highly sensitive person, does making changes and adjustments rattle you? It does for me sometimes! I’m still a work in progress, but I’m getting better.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we lived in a “perfect” world where everything went according to plan? It would be, but the opposite is true. As we all know, life is very unpredictable! Conditions and situations are constantly changing, regardless of how we feel about that.

How often have you planned something, and it turned out much different from what you originally thought? This can be extremely frustrating, but it’s important to remember that different doesn’t necessarily mean worse. In many instances, the adjustments that we make can actually make our original plan better. (more…)
