Should you explain yourself?

Should you explain yourself when things don’t go well, or when you make a mistake? Should you explain the decisions you make? The answer to these questions depends on the situation. Do you need to clarify what you’ve said or done? Is it necessary to defend yourself? What do you want to do?

At first thought, the need to explain myself sends shivers down my spine. To me, it means I’ve made a mistake, and I now have to come up with reasons why I made it. Feelings of inferiority and shame come to mind. Low self-esteem is behind these feelings. It’s always bothered me that I feel this way, but sometimes you find inspiration in the most unexpected places. (more…)

Where were you on 9/11/01?

Where were you on 9/11/01? This is a question that many of us may be contemplating on yet another sad anniversary of that fateful day. It’s hard to believe all the years that have passed since that beautiful sunny day when the skies suddenly filled with fire and smoke, buildings collapsed, and people went running for their lives.

I was in Jersey City, New Jersey. The weather was perfect, and it seemed like it was going to be a normal and pleasant day. At 8:45 am, all of that changed. I heard on my car radio that a World Trade Center building had been struck by an airplane. (more…)

How flexible are you?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we lived in a “perfect” world where everything went according to plan? It would be, but the opposite is true. As we all know, life is very unpredictable! Conditions and situations are constantly changing, regardless of how we feel about that.

How often have you planned something, and it turned out much different from what you originally thought? This can be extremely frustrating, but it’s important to remember that different doesn’t necessarily mean worse. In many instances, the adjustments that we make can actually make our original plan better. (more…)
