Our pets are pretty good at letting us know when their needs are not being met, but what about you? Do you ask for what you want? Or are you the type of person who feels that you can solve all of your problems yourself? Do you tend to assume that others can read your mind when you want something? As a highly sensitive person, I instinctively try to handle all situations myself and believe that others know what I’m feeling and wanting. .

Over the years, I’ve been working on releasing some of these self-defeating beliefs. After all, they never make the situation better and only place more stress on my already overactive nervous system. (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: How Do You Cope With Loss?

It’s true that we never know what’s going to happen from day-to-day. Grief for a human being, a beloved pet, a lost relationship, a job loss, or a loss in any other form can be devastating. As highly sensitive people, we feel things more intensely and may experience a longer lasting period of grief and loss. Thus, it helps to have a strategy to help us through these difficult times.

Below are some strategies that helped me through difficult times.

  • Don’t minimize or limit your feelings. Don’t ignore the importance of your loss or be embarrassed by it, regardless of what others think. Depending on the type of loss, you may face some people who think you’re overreacting. They may mean well, but it’s very important that you honor your own feelings. Be patient with yourself, and give yourself enough time to work through your loss. There are no time limits on your sadness.  (more…)

#HighlySensitivePeople: Do You Suffer From Analysis Paralysis?

I know that this is an odd question to ask a highly sensitive person! It’s really not!  How often do you take on a task or have to make a decision and worry that you’re going to make a mistake? Does this keep you from doing things? Being the self-conscious and highly sensitive person that I am, I often feel this way.

I have found that worrying too much about results weakens me and makes me less efficient. It’s so energy draining! I used to have the bad habit of thinking that everything in life depends on how “one thing” turns out. Can you relate to this? (more…)
