How much socializing do you need?

How much socializing do you need? Studies show that our capacity to connect with other people plays an important role in our personal happiness, longevity, and ability to handle stress.

Unfortunately, since highly sensitive people tend to need a lot of “alone” time, it’s relatively easy to get caught up in our own “little worlds”. While it’s healthy to have some alone time, we need to be careful that we don’t take it too far and become socially isolated. (more…)

A touching story: I wish you enough!

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter’s departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said:

“I love you, and I wish you enough.”

The daughter replied, “Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom.” They kissed and the daughter left.

The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry. (more…)

You don’t have to face difficulties alone. No matter how small or large a challenge you have, it is well worth it to to seek help. Getting a fresh perspective can give you more options. You will also feel better knowing that you’re not alone.

As an example, I’ve been feeling anxious about my mother’s upcoming 90th birthday. This should be a joyous and momentous occasion, something to be excited about, but the challenging relationships that I have with some in my family are making the situation very stressful. (more…)
