Expert advice on easing school anxiety

It’s been many years since I was in school, but I was always anxious about starting a new school year. This was because of the changes that occurred, such as having new teachers, new friends, new classes, and in some cases, new schools. Since many other HSPs have also mentioned having “back-to-school” anxiety as a kid, I thought I’d share this article on school anxiety.

Is shyness something to overcome?

Shyness is a feeling of insecurity and extreme awkwardness around others. Who at some point in their lives hasn’t experienced this? It becomes a problem when it interferes with one’s day-to-day functioning. If shyness is a part of one’s being, it doesn’t have to be something that has to be overcome. It’s a trait that should be embraced and utilized.

Shyness isn’t some terrible obstacle. It’s not something that you cannot work with. I’m a shy person. I refuse to see my shyness as something to be ashamed of. I don’t look at my shyness as a negative character trait. The world may see shyness in a poor light, but it shouldn’t affect the way we see ourselves. If we feel good about ourselves, who cares what anyone else thinks? (more…)

What are you worried about?

Unfortunately, worry has been a constant companion in my life. As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I’m learning that most things that I worried about didn’t happen or weren’t as bad as I thought. Has this happened to you?

We formulate our thought patterns early in our lives. Have you stopped to examine if some of these thought patterns are true? For some unknown reason I had come to believe that the more I worried, the better I could cope with worry, fear, and anxiety. Definitely not true! (more…)

Are you feeling frazzled?

Feeling Frazzled? Overwhelmed? Do you think about too many things at one time? Does your ability to concentrate and focus seem compromised? Are you easily overwhelmed?

Many of us (myself included) would answer “yes” to these questions. Since highly sensitive people process and absorb more emotional and physical information than average, these feelings are very common. Left unchecked, they can become road blocks to a peaceful and productive life. (more…)
