Is conventional wisdom… really wisdom?

How many times have you heard that conventional wisdom says…this, that…or the other thing? Is conventional wisdom really true wisdom?

What is conventional wisdom? It means different things to different people. I posed this question as a general way people look at a problem/situation in a conventional or more traditional way.

I got a very interesting and profound remark to this question from one of my friends on The Highly Sensitive Person Publishing Company Facebook page. Here’s the remark:

“People are following tradition, or what they have been taught, instead of listening to their instinct and heart. It’s not wisdom at all, wisdom is learned and earned over time by personal experience. Each person’s wisdom is different and the way they handle a problem or situation when they dig deep from within, is uniquely theirs”.

What a wonderful commentary! This gets right to the heart of my question. In summary…People follow “traditional wisdom” because it’s easier to follow a more familiar path. True wisdom is learned from personal intuition and experience.

Is the more familiar path, the right path for you? That depends on the situation. Has the familiar path worked for you in this specific circumstance? If so, this might be the way for you to go. If not, you’re going to have to go into uncharted waters by doing some research, taking some risks, being open to new experiences, and be willing to make adjustments when needed.

The ability to listen to our hearts/intuition, to trust it with information gathering and experience, are the keys to our true wisdom. We highly sensitive people are “hard-wired” to do this! Utilize your natural ability. Are you up for the challenge? Your reward is having your true authentic life! Isn’t it worth a try?

I’m interested in any thoughts or comments that you have.
